Description:
In the summer of 1968, Gibson did something new. By popular demand, it introduced the first "Reissue" in its catalog: the Les Paul Custom, which had been discontinued almost ten years earlier, was put back into production.
The 1968 Les Paul Custom, however, was something different. The body was no longer completely made of mahogany, but featured a maple top, which gave the sound more brightness. It was the forerunner of the Les Paul Custom model that we still find in the Gibson catalog today.
The 1968 Les Paul Custom celebrates this emblematic and historic model by recreating it with attention to the smallest details.
This version was made as a Custom Order through the Made 2 Measure program and features a Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged finish as well as a stunning Classic Vintage White finish, Custom Bucker pickups and Gold-finish hardware.
The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates, with natural, non-manual processes, the same aging conditions of the paint that we find on original vintage instruments. Very thin finishes, characterized by an evident and consistent "crackle", with an absolutely authentic feeling. It really seems to have in your hands an original vintage instrument but with all the quality and performance that today only the Gibson Custom Shop is able to offer.
